The South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church
On Tuesday, June 12, 2012, the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church (UMC) adopted a resolution for Tobacco-Free Places of Worship during its annual session. Adoption of the resolution was led by Rev. Amiri Hooker, Director of the Conference Connectional Ministries Advocacy Area of the UMC.
Charleston - Columbia District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church
On Monday, January 18, 2016, the Charleston - Columbia District of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (CME) adopted its resolution for Tobacco-Free Places of Worship during its participation at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at the Dome. Endorsed by Bishop James B. Walker and Presiding Elder Rev. Ronzell Manness, adoption of the resolution was led by Rev. Dr. Doris L. Hicks, Director Commission of Social Justice and Human Concern for the Charleston - Columbia District of the Carolina Region of the CME Church.
M.E.S.S.: An Evaluation and Validation Project
In 2007, the State Baptist YWA worked closely with the S.C. Cancer Disparities Community Network, Hold Out the Lifeline: A Mission to Families, and the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control on an important pilot project. This initiative was to evaluate the M.E.S.S. (Mothers Eliminating Secondhand Smoke) Program as a useful tool to reduce people’s exposure of secondhand smoke at church, home, and in the car.
